Congratulations to IMO on their 70th Birthday.
70 years ago the UN adopted the Convention establishing the International Maritime Organisation. Since then the IMO has implemented many Conventions, Codes, Guidelines, etc, to improve the shipping industry, especially the safety of crews. It is not always easy to speed things along - IMO is just a Secretariat, it's the member States (Governments) who decide which direction it goes and the work it carries out, with of course important advice from NGOs, such as IFSMA, which has a very important role to play as, increasingly, IMO member delegations have fewer and fewer experienced seafarers to give expert advice.
